COFIS has four main aims:
1. To educate the Scottish public about Israel
2. To promote equality and diversity in Scotland and Israel
3. To advocate for peace between Israel and Palestinians
4. To challenge antisemitism and to seek harmony between people of different faiths
We fulfil this by methods such as:
⦁ Cultural events, such as Shalom Festivals
Shalom Festivals provide a powerful opportunity to showcase the multi-faith and multi-cultural nature of Israel, in contrast to the false allegations of ‘apartheid’ which are frequently heard from hateful individuals and organisations. It also allows an opportunity for people to learn the perspectives of Israeli Arabs, many of whom identify as Palestinian.
⦁ Public talks, such as that given by Reservists on Duty
⦁ COFIS website at cofis.org
Our new website was published at the beginning of August 2019 and provides resources (written by COFIS Convenor, Edward Sutherland) which provide readers with information about Israel and answers to many of the common questions about Israel.
⦁ COFIS Facebook page
This is a new page, launched in July 2019, in order to ensure that a close control is maintained over what is published by COFIS on social media. The site administrator is the COFIS Convenor, Edward Sutherland.
⦁ COFIS Twitter account
This account is also maintained by the COFIS Convenor, Edward Sutherland. It communicates about COFIS events and news about Israel.
⦁ Participation in the Scottish Parliament Cross-Party Group, Building Bridges with Israel
⦁ Participation in multi-cultural and inter-faith activities, such as through the Council of Christians and Jews and through our partnership with the Glasgow-based charity, Cross Ethnic.
